I’m James Banks, and I’m learning to ride on track
I’ve loved motorcycles my whole life. I watch way too much MotoGP and World Superbikes. I’ve spent years riding on the street. But until recently, I’d never done a track day.
Like a lot of riders, I’d thought about it. I’d seen the videos. I’d wondered what it would be like to push a bike without worrying about traffic, potholes, or losing my licence to the boys and girls in blue.
Turns out, track days aren’t just for racers. They’re for anyone who wants to improve as a rider in a controlled environment – without the risks of pushing it on public roads.
What this site is about
Rankmax Racing documents my journey from curious street rider to track day regular. The lessons, the gear, the circuits, the mistakes – all of it.
I’m not a racer. I’m not an instructor. I’m not here to tell you how to ride. I’m just someone who finally gave track days a go and wants to share what I learn along the way, in case it helps someone else take the same step.
The content here includes track-day reports, honest gear reviews based on real-world use and guides to circuits in Australia and beyond.
I also spent almost two years living in Bali, where I bought an R6, immersed myself in the local riding scene and rode the Mandalika MotoGP circuit four times. That experience opened my eyes to a different side of motorcycle culture and I’ll be sharing stories and guides from that chapter as well.

By day, I run Rankmax, Australia’s leading AI SEO agency, which I started back in 2023. I’ve been running my own companies for about 15 years. Business is my work. Motorcycles are what I think about when I’m not working.
Rankmax Racing connects these two worlds. The discipline required to build a business translates to the track. The lessons from track riding translate back to business. This is where those two things meet.
